SABARIMALA - SPECIAL OCCASSIONS

Mandala pooja (November to December) and Makaravilakku(Jan.14), Vishu (April 14),and the first six days of each Malayalam month are the occasions that the temple is opening for the Pooja or worship but pilgrim seasons are Mandala Pooja (November to December) and Makaravilakku(Jan.14).The temple stays closed during the rest of the year.

SABARIMAL - SPECIAL CUSTOMS

A pilgrim attending the Mandalapooja should observe Vratham for 41 days. During this period, the  pilgrim can't use non- vegetarian food, alcohol, cigrattes,and other pleasures. Pilgrims set out in groups under a leader, and each carry a cloth bundle called Irumudi kettu containing traditional offerings.

SABARIMALA - SPECIALITY

All are equal before Lord Ayyappa. Even the deity and the devotee are known by the same name Ayyappa or Swamy. Sabarimala temple has no restrictions of caste or creed.The temple is open to males of all age groups and to women who have either passed their fertility age and those before reaching the stage of puberty.

• Calicut International airport is at Kozhikode district and a distance of about 303 km from Sabarimala.

For getting the air ticket Ayyappa devotees has to book 45 days before itself to reserve the tickets,if they want to visit Sabarimala on Mandala Poojas and Makara Jyoti days. Pre-paid taxi services are available from  airports to Pampa, 4 km away from Sabarimala Temple. The airports are well connected to all major airports in India and also are connected to many foreign cities.
